The Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA) is growing! Want to be part of a team that promotes the science and practice of positive psychology and its research-based applications? Want to help facilitate collaboration and communication among researchers, practitioners, teachers, and students in Canada and around the world, across disciplines, who are interested in positive psychology? Want to help build a psychologically healthy Canadian society through the research and application of positive psychology across Canada?

The Canadian Positive Psychology Association is a registered Canadian not-for-profit organization.  We support scholars and academics who are engaged in rigorous academic research in the field of positive psychology, and we work with practitioners to ensure a higher standard in the application of positive psychology.

President and Chair—Volunteer Board Director, Canadian Positive Psychology Association

As president of the Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA), your role is to:

  • Preside over monthly board meetings
  • Encourage participation and insights from other directors
  • Determine the strategic direction, values and action plans to fulfill the mission of the organization
  • Monitor and support the performance and flourishing of the board of directors
  • Be an informed and passionate spokesperson for the Canadian Positive Psychology Association and positive psychology
  • Build thriving relationships with media, funders, partners, researchers, members and governments
  • Ensure good governance and financial stewardship
  • Propose progressive procedures, policies and by-laws
  • Support and oversee various sub-committees and task forces

    The position will allow you to:

    • Be at the center of the positive psychology world in Canada and internationally
    • Attend most board meetings virtually
    • Work with and support many of the world’s leading positive psychology researchers and practitioners
    • Increase the awareness and application of scientifically founded research and practice
    • Potentially make a measurable impact on the flourishing of Canadians

    Time Commitment

    The President will dedicate approximately 15-20 hours a month to the Canadian Positive Psychology Association to attend board meetings, board subcommittee meetings and/or task forces, and fulfill board responsibilities.  Time commitment is flexible based on a candidate’s strengths and qualifications.


    Term of Appointment

    The President is asked to commit to a minimum two-year term, with the option of reappointment at the end of the term.  The appointed president will stand for election at the next AGM.


    Job specifications

    • 10-years’ experience in a leadership position
    • Mastery level-knowledge of positive psychology and its applications
    • Advanced degree in positive psychology or related field
    • Credible and respectable “leader” in the worldwide positive psychology movement
    • 3-years of non-profit board experience 
    • 5-years’ experience organizing and/or overseeing events such as conferences, workshops, panels, courses, etc.
    • Ability to lead a virtual team
    • Clear and compelling speaker, writer and communicator
    • Media savvy and experience a plus
    • Embodies many of the core tenets of positive psychology
