The Canadian Positive Psychology Association is thrilled to offer the 2nd Educating for Resilience Conference. This conference is for teachers, counsellors, educators, and positive psychology practitioners who are interested in learning how to use Positive Psychology to increase resilience in schools. This year we are partnering with Upper Canada College (UCC) and have a complete new line-up of talented and highly inspirational speakers. We have taken into account all that we have learned from our previous conference in 2013 and are using that to ensure that this year's conference is bigger and even more successful than the last! 

While traditional mental health programs focus on coping with mental illness, Educating for Resilience provides the strategies and techniques to increase positive mental health and fitness - a rapidly growing focus in the teaching community.

An Introduction to Positive Psychology

Louisa Jewell, MAPP - President of the CPPA, will start off the Conference with an Introduction to Positive Psychology. This interactive session will present an overview of positive psychology and the benefits of applying positive psychology in an educational setting.

How to Build Resilience Through Teacher-Student Relationships

and School Culture

In this practical session with Greg Evans, PhD., he will discuss what positive psychology, neuroscience, and evolutionary biology have to say about what underlies the most supportive and successful teacher-student relationships.


Mindful Educators - Resilient Students:
An Experiential Approach to Steadying the Mind, Calming the Heart and Relaxing the Body

In this workshop Heidi Bornstein will explore the benefits of mindfulness for both teachers and students. She will share simple effective practices that can be incorporated into daily life to reduce stress and increase mindful compassionate awareness. 

The Lens of Character Strengths to Develop Social and Emotional Competencies for Learners of All Ages

In this presentation Jillian Darwish, Ed.D., President of the Mayerson Academy, will examine how learners of all ages have built social and emotional competencies through an appreciative focus on personal, signature, strengths as defined in the VIA classification.

Understanding Kindness in the School Context:  Implications for Educators

This presentation from Holli-Anne Passmore and John-Tyler Binfet PhD., from the University of British Columbia will discuss a recent study about Canadian students and how they understand kindness at school. This talk will provide educators with insights into kindness and practical strategies for enhancing students' kindness.

Weaving Positive Psychology into your Curriculum: Stories from the Front Line

A 1-hour panel discussion consisting of a group of invited educators and teachers to share their practical applications of positive psychology in schools.

The Moments that Make Champions

Caroline Adams Miller, a world-renowned coach, author, speaker and educator in the fields of empowerment, change, well-being and the science of goal accomplishment will be delivering a thrilling keynote presentation on "grit" to wrap-up the conference.

Refund Policy: If a refund is required, 10% of your registration fee will be deducted from your refund for processing fees. After October 7, 2015 no refunds will be granted. You may transfer your registration to someone else at any time.

Photography Waiver & Release

As is customary at conferences, a photographer/videographer will be present taking images of the proceedings which may include delegates. By registering for the conference, you consent to your photo and video being taken and published by the CPPA as part of the 2nd Educating for Resilience Conference-related materials. The photographs taken and used by the CPPA will be included into stock files. Delegates grant permission to the CPPA to photograph and video tape or use these photographs and video of any participants in audio visual and printed materials without compensation or approval rights.


As a Delegate of the 2nd Educating for Resilience Conference, the act of completed registration grants the Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA) and its legal representatives the absolute irrevocable right and unrestricted permission to use and publish photographs or video images of Delegates. This includes any purpose that is authorized by CPPA, including but not limited to: reuse, publish the same in whole or in part, individually or in conjunction with other photographs, and in conjunction with any printed matter, in any and all media, including but not limited to: illustration, art, brochures, editorial, catalog, promotion, advertising, trade, news articles, website use, and any other purpose whatsoever. This grant includes the right to modify and re-touch the image is at the discretion of the CPPA. The circulation of such materials could be worldwide and that there will be no compensation for Delegates for this use.


In granting permission to the CPPA and its legal representatives or assigns and all persons acting under its permission or authority, Delegates fully and without limitation release, discharge, and agree to save harmless from any liability that may arise from the use of the images or by virtue of any alteration, processing or use thereof in composite form, whether intentional or otherwise, as well as any publication thereof. Delegates waive any right to inspect or improve the finished products; the advertising copy, or printed matter that may be used in connection therewith; or the use to which it may be applied.
